Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 16th. Do you have plans yet? How about a gift? I’m usually last-minute when it comes to shopping for gifts for any occasion, so putting this gift guide together helped me narrow down some options. If you have someone you’d like to shop for — doesn’t need to be a dad! — here are some recommendations.
One thing I want to be better about is keeping our knives sharpened; they always seem dull! Dan does a lot of the cooking in our family — and we’ve been grilling a lot more now that the weather is nice — so this would be a perfect Father’s Day gift for him. Check with your local kitchen supply store to see if you can bring your knives in to be sharpened, and if that’s not an option, try this at-home knife sharpener with five sharpening angles, from $30.
A New York City Bagel Brunch, $195 (serves 6), to get his NYC bagel fix. What better way to kick off Father’s Day than a hearty bagel breakfast from Russ & Daughters? Plus, it comes with a really cute coffee mug. There’s also a Father’s Day Brunch package that’s the same as the New York Brunch package except he gets a Russ & Daughters baseball cap, $210 (serves 6).
An Aquasana SmartFlow™ Reverse Osmosis Filter, $225, to remove any added taste from minerals or chemicals in his drinking and cooking water. A few weeks ago, folks at Aquasana reached out to see if we’d like to try this reverse osmosis water filter system. Since Dan and I have used Aquasana products for a few years — the Aquasana’s 2-Stage water filter system was our first under-sink filter system — we were excited to upgrade to the RO system. We’ve been using this for a couple weeks now, and in addition to our drinking water tasting so much cleaner, I’ve really noticed a difference in our coffee. If he’s been thinking about upgrading the water filter system, I recommend considering this one.
A new pair of sneakers, from $129, for summer adventures and date nights. Did you know Rothy’s carries men’s shoes? I’ve been a fan of their women’s shoes for quite a while (these are on my wish list), but I didn’t know until recently that they have men’s shoes too. Dan has a tough time finding cool street sneakers in his size — he wears a 14 or 15 depending on the fit — but Rothy’s carries several great styles up to size 16! I love the ash grey RS01 Sneaker, above, and these sand dune high-tops are great too. (Code MENS40 gets you $40 off all men’s shoes right now!)
The New York Times’ Crosswords for a Lazy Weekend, $18, for park hangs and beach days. This collection of 200 of the New York Times’ easy to hard crossword puzzles is perfect for the dad who loves a good word game.
Tickets to a game — baseball, soccer, basketball — to cheer on his local team. If you’re in NYC, head to Barclays to watch the New York Liberty play on June 20th, June 22nd, or June 30th. Check the schedule for games later this summer. Also, get him one of the popular Everyone Watches Women’s Sports tee!
For Dan’s first Father’s Day, I got him a pair of DivvyUp Socks, and he still wears them three years later! I had a cute photo of our daughter’s face printed on Dan’s socks, and I love the idea of printing kids’ art on them too.
An adjustable pillow, from $75, for a great night’s sleep. We’ve used Coop’s Original Adjustable Pillows for a few years, and they’re the best pillows I’ve ever owned. Since you can remove some of the fill or add extra (they send a bag of extra fill with your order), these pillows are truly customizable to your pillow preference.
Growing up, my sister and I would put on our bikinis and wash our parent’s vehicles in the driveway. Did you do this growing up? We just used buckets of soapy water, jumbo sponges, and the hose, and we had so much fun — I have the best memories from this. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly gift, this is it! You could also take his vehicle to get detailed, if you want an extra good clean.
An Ice Pod, from $99, for ice baths to help with muscle soreness and aches and pains.
A framed object or photo, from $75, for his desk or bedside table. Framebridge’s floating option is perfect for framing objects. Just click “start framing” and then “objects with depth,” and you can frame almost anything — from a 3D kids’ art project to an old jersey to a license plate.
A long FaceTime/a chatty walk around the neighborhood/a stoop hang, $priceless :)
