If you had to pick one song to be the best karaoke song of all time, what would it be? Reddit has asked this question more than once, and there are hundreds of suggestions (and opinions). I recently asked some friends what song they’d pick, which sparked a lively discussion. Here are a few songs up for the award of ‘Best Karaoke Song of All Time’…
My friend Thomas said, “The best karaoke songs are the ones where everyone is singing along.” Totally agree. He couldn’t pick just one but he loves Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi. I’ve been in a karaoke bar when the chorus of “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette started playing and everyone lost it.
“Wannabee” by The Spice Girls was Liza’s top song. “The lyrics are easy enough and it’s a safe song if you don’t have a great singing voice — or a singing voice at all.” Noted.
“You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon was mentioned a few times, and while I agree that it’s a great karaoke song, all I could think about was that awkward scene from the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Someone threw out “Build Me Up Buttercup” by The Foundations, which I thought was a random pick at first, but it’s popular in the world of karaoke.
Whitney Houston songs were also discussed and the favorite was “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”
Another good option — but not the best one the group decided— was “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” by Backstreet Boys.
Not surprisingly, everyone agreed that Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” is in the top three best karaoke songs (best songs of all time?).
As it turns out, it’s really hard to pick just one best karaoke song. Everyone has their personal favorite and the reasons why they love that song. But we ended up with a list of really good karaoke songs for our next outing.
Thoughts? Do you have a favorite karaoke song? Any you wouldn’t recommend, (which is equally as important in my mind)?
P.S. Things to do during your karaoke song’s too-long instrumental interlude, in the off chance you pick a terrible karaoke song.
P.P.S. When we discovered Dubsmash.
Hard to pick just one! I’d add to your list Eye Of The Tiger. It always seems to get people singing along!
Yes! A great addition to the list. :)
At least one female will always get up and sing ‘Fever’. Every time. Never fails.
