So, we’ve been watching a lot of movies over the past couple of weeks in quarantine…you too? We’ve also been testing out a bunch of different movie snacks, and we’re on the hunt for the best movie snack at home…
One of the best parts of watching movies at home, in my opinion, is the snacks. But alas, not all snacks are good movie snacks.
Movie snacks need to meet a number of requirements — they must be easily shared, finger foods*, something you can munch on for a while (so not too rich or too spicy), and not messy — for example, buffalo wings are out. Period.
While the verdict is still out on which snack is the best one, here are a few I love…
POPCORN
It’s a movie snack as old as movies. And since it’s airy, a little crunchy, a lot salty, and covered in butter — “Popcorn is the best movie snack,” Dan announced with a tone that sounded puzzled by my even asking the question in the first place.
If you make your own popcorn and want to take it up a notch, try adding a few shakes of Trader Joe’s Chile Lime Seasoning Blend for an addicting spicy-citrusy flavor.
JUNIOR MINTS
Are Junior Mints the OG movie snack? I think, maybe. And since we’re watching movies at home, you can always pop the box in the freezer. These dimpled delights are even better when frozen (as are York Peppermint Patties).
SKITTLES
Skittles are the snack I’ve bought the most at the movie theater but are they the best? And for the purposes of this discussion, do Skittles deserve the title for the best movie snack at home? What do you think?
WINE
Wine has my vote for the best movie snack at home.
What about you? What’s your go-to snack when watching movies at home? Do you make something from scratch (our friends love nachos) or buy an assortment of items? I’d love to hear so we can try out some new treats…
P.S. Hummus makes a great movie snack.
I love popcorn, but must have a cold beer with it.
Haha – I agree! :)
