Do you have quirky art or art that’s a little offbeat in your home? We have mostly photos of landscapes and nature, but the other day I came across artist Nanan Kang‘s Corn with a Pearl Earring, and wouldn’t it be amusing to hang in a home office? Here are some more funky prints of the same theme…
Kang’s Corn with a Pearl Earring isn’t the first riff on Vermeer’s famous Girl with a Pearl Earring painting. Artist Rodrigo Pinheiro’s modern takes on the masterpiece include Girl with Pearl Earring Chillout Mode and Girl with Pearl Earring Bath Time. The bath time print is my favorite! I would absolutely get a print to hang in our bathroom.
This version by Japanese graphic designer Shusaku Takaoka featuring Rhianna went viral a couple years ago.
Another modern interpretation: Girl with a Pearl Earring and Point-and-Shoot Camera by Mitchell Grafton (via Kottke).
‘Summer Mood’ by Dan Cretu puts Girl with a Pearl Earring on the beach with Mona and Vincent.
Lastly, artist Kristen Cumings’ version made with Jelly Belly jelly beans was displayed at The Indianapolis Children’s Museum. Cumings used acrylic paint to begin the portrait and then placed jelly beans with spray adhesive over the acrylic.
Thoughts? What other funky art do you like?
P.S. Affordable art and exploring the Brimfield Antique Show.

I love the bath time print (and the tub)! And the jelly bean portrait is crazy!
I looooove the tub too!
