Have you heard about New York’s statewide ban on plastic bags? The ban officially kicked in at the beginning of March, and it prohibits grocery stores, food establishments, and other businesses from offering plastic bags to their consumers. Also, in New York City, consumers will be charged 5 cents for every paper bag they use.
I’m 100% behind this! We see single-use plastic bags (as well as every other type of trash you can think of) blowing in the wind or stuck in trees all over the city, and it’s so bad for the environment and it’s just plain gross. Although this change will take some time to get used to, it’s a step in the right direction. We have a handful of reusable grocery bags — different sizes, shapes, and designs — that have held up (we’ve had some for decades) and we love them. If you’re in need of something new, here are a bunch of cute options for reusable grocery bags and produce bags…
If you like reusable grocery bags with cheeky designs…
If you like mesh or net bags…
If you like straw basket bags…
If you want to customize your bag…
If you need to stock up on produce bags…
Thoughts? What do you use for reusable grocery bags these days? I’ve also been wanting to get some beeswax food wraps for a while.
P.S. Here’s the I love NY bag in the top photo (plus another fun one) and 12 cute sunglasses chains.
Love all these great bags. I’ve been using cloth, jute and mesh bags for many years and would love to find a waterproof alternative to plastic bags
Oh, great point, Helen! I’ll see what I can come up with for waterproof options.
All these bags are cute but my favorite is the leopard
Yes, I love the leopard print, too!
I’m from New York too and am appreciative of the plastic bag ban. This is such a cool post, I loved seeing all of the different kinds together. I’m planning to make some like the ones at the top from fabric scraps!
