Do You Like To Clean Your House?

May 18, 2015September 13, 2020 Kelley 6 comments

Every few weeks, I’ll get in this mood and I’ll clean our apartment for a couple of hours. It’s mindless work; sometimes I just want to do something that doesn’t require brain power but makes me feel productive (and who doesn’t like a clean house?). But that mood doesn’t come along that often for me. Instead, I do small cleaning jobs throughout the week–‘tidy as you go’ is my cleaning motto. I’ll wipe down the front of the refrigerator and counters with a damp dishcloth after cleaning the dishes, and after drying my hands with paper towels, I’ll wipe up dust bunnies from the corners of the room. I keep a small brush in the shower and a spray bottle under the sink, and about once a week while I’m in the shower, I’ll give it a quick scrub. But I couldn’t be bothered to clean the shower unless I’m already in there–anyone else like that?

Do you have those friends who say they love to clean, it calms them or whatever? My friend Kendra actually kicks her boyfriend out of the house on Sundays and cleans her whole house and, get this, she enjoys it! I’m not that person. Sometimes I wish I was that person. It would certainly decrease my stress level when I try to carve out an hour an hour before guests are due to arrive for the weekend. But one thing I’ve noticed about myself when I’m trying my darnest to be an adult and clean more regularly is: When I put on sneakers I’m more likely to focus and clean instead of, say, wipe down the counters and then check my email. Kind of random but…on second thought, cleaning can be a workout, so maybe sneakers are required and I’ve just missed this detail all along…?

Thoughts? Do you like to clean? Any weird tricks to pump yourself up for a morning of cleaning? : )

I need to clean and get motivated tonight! We’re leaving for Iowa and I need to do laundry. I have no motivation, I’m going to put on my kicks, thanks for the tip :)

I don’t particularly like to clean but I hate a dirty house, it makes me so stressed so I do it for my own sanity.
My mom has done the same thing my whole life with the brush in the shower – cleaning while she is shower. I’ve always thought she was the only person who does that haha!

I like to put on some great tunes and turn up the volume! Leonard Skynyrd, Earth Wind and Fire, and the Marshall Tucker Band!
