In a typical year, we would cut down a tree from Dan’s family’s Christmas tree farm during the weekend after Thanksgiving, and put up a few decorations in our apartment that weekend too. But…
This year has been anything but typical, and after seeing pictures of cozy livingrooms lit up with Christmas lights and decorated trees — as early as the first week in November — we decided to start a little early too.
We weren’t able to cut our tree earlier than normal, but we put up lights around the apartment and hung a wreath in the entryway before Thanksgiving. Just those two simple things gave us some early holiday cheer.
For our Christmas tree this year, we decorated with white lights, DIY dried orange ornaments, and DIY cranberry garland. We’ve also added candy canes and a few decorations since I took these pictures, but now we’re not sure what to put on top of the tree. What do you have? A star? An angel? Something different? I honestly don’t mind it just the way it is…
P.S. Our tree from a few years ago.
We put our decorations up early too. We have a fake tree, so we were able to put up our tree early. I like the simplicity of yours. Very cute!
Thanks, Jenn! It was fun to switch up our decorations this year and do simple DIY ornaments.
Your tree and decor are beautiful!
Thanks, Jennifer!
I definitely broke my rule and decorated right after Halloween…. I usually wait until Thanksgiving day.
Also, I love your dried orange ornaments! I will have to try this.
This was definitely the year to break the rules! ;) Yes, def give the dried orange ornaments a try — they’re super easy and so pretty.
I love the cherry garland! Is that made with dried cherries? How does it keep?
I just picked up two bags of Ocean Spray cranberries from the produce section at our local grocery store and so far so good! I didn’t use any that looked bruised or too soft, so hoping they last a while!
I got my tree up (with a star) at the beginning of the month! Helps to keep the chaos down as the holidays approach… it this year I forgot to get the xmas cards ready on time! Can’t win them all! And the tree looks great btw!
Oh, I’m the same, Katherine — getting our holidays card out on time is such a struggle!
