An Easy Flower-Arranging Tip That Anyone Can Try

June 21, 2023June 21, 2023 Kelley 8 comments
Mini Flower Arrangements | Happily K

Do you have any flower-arranging hacks? I’ve been making an effort to buy a bunch of flowers from Trader Joe’s or our local bodega more often, and I’m loving the cheerful vibe they add to our home. Over the years, I’ve picked up tips and tricks to revive store-bought flowers (like recutting the stems and adding bleach to the water) and make them last longer (like storing them in the fridge at night). Here’s another simple flower-arranging tip that I’ve been using lately to get the most out of each bouquet…

Flower-Arranging Tip for Beginners | Happily K

After peeling off any petals that look a little blah, I divvy up the stems into several smaller arrangements. I like to group two or three stems per arrangement, and sometimes a single stem looks pretty on its own.

Once I have all my mini arrangements set, I grab a little glass bottle for each one. Using smaller vessels is key here since you don’t want your arrangements to look too loose in their containers. We have a large collection of vintage glass bottles (like these, and here’s a colorful collection) that I love to use for these mini arrangements, but you could use an old perfume bottle, an empty candle container, a small mason jar, or upcycle a wine bottle — any smaller container will work. (How about these fun mushroom vases?!)

Then, I like to scatter the mini arrangements all over our apartment so we can enjoy flowers in every corner of our home instead of just one spot.

What do you think? Do you use this trick? Have any other simple flower-arranging tips that you love?

P.S. We used this flower-arranging tip at this beautiful New England wedding.

Love these tips for flower arranging… we grow a lot of our own flowers and I’m constantly bringing them into the house and putting them around the tables/counters.
