Isolation Creations: Artwork, Furniture & More

April 6, 2020February 27, 2023 Kelley 5 comments
Isolation Creations: Getty Museum Artwork Recreation Challenge - Happily K blog
Imaginary Insect, Tulip, Spider, and Common Pear in Mira Calligraphiae Monumenta, 1561–1562; Watercolors, gold and silver paint, and ink on parchment. Re-creation on Twitter by the Martinez family with lasagna, matches, produce, and paper bags.

What Instagram accounts or hashtags are you following with creative ‘stay home’ content? From museums to farms to artists, I’ve seen a ton of cool and inspiring ‘isolation creations.’ Here are three projects I’m currently following and loving…

Isolation Creations: The Laundress Recreation Challenge - Happily K blog
The Laundress (La Blanchisseuse), 1761, Jean-Baptiste Greuze. Re-creation on Instagram by Elizabeth Ariza and family in the modern-day laundry room.
Isolation Creations: Van Gogh Recreation Challenge - Happily K blog
Irises, 1889, Vincent Van Gogh. Oil on canvas. Re-creation on Twitter by Cara Jo O’Connell and family using Play-Doh, carrot slices, and wooden beads.

The Getty Museum announced a fun challenge to re-create artworks with objects and people and pets at home, inspired by the Instagram account @tussenkunstenquarantaine aka “Between Art and Quarantine.” People are sharing their re-creations on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, and they’re seriously impressive.

Take a look at the creations on Instagram here: #betweenartandquarantine.

Photographer Jamie Beck lives in Provence, France and is creating one piece of art per day during the COVID-19 quarantine. She shares her process of creating each photo on her Instagram Stories, and it’s inspiring to watch her build the scene. Creatives from all over the world are also sharing their daily works using Jamie’s #isolationcreation, and it’s full of amazing photos, sculptures, and more.

Each photograph in Jamie’s ‘Isolation Creation’ series is available for purchase on her online shop.

Another fun project to follow is the “Isolation Chair.” It’s inspired by a first-year industrial design school assignment to use random materials and quickly assemble them into the likeness of a chair.

If you’re following any isolation creations I’d love to hear about them. Also, if you’ve done any of your own, please feel free to share a link to your work so we can check it out!

P.S. More activities to try during the quarantine.
