Have you watched the Netflix Original series Narcos? Based on the true story of Columbia’s infamously violent Medellin Cartel and Pablo Escobar as well as United States DEA agents, Narcos is getting a lot of buzz on and offline and for good reason. The plot is gripping and intense, with real footage and photographs, and the series was shot on location in Columbia. Dan and I watched it while house-sitting a few weeks ago and really loved it. Here are two reviews:
“Narcos” doesn’t mess around with atmospherics or cast-of-thousands nonsense. It’s built on sharp writing and equally sharp acting, as any good series needs to be. At the center of it is a prize-worthy performance by the Brazilian actor Wagner Moura (pictured below) as Escobar. – NY Times
The voice-over lends the show the almost dreamy air of a legend or fable, a gather round, children, for the story of the most notorious drug kingpin in living memory, and the show itself acknowledges in its awkward opening moments that this saga is in some ways part of the Colombian tradition of magical realism, that the story of Pablo Escobar is both true and surreal at the same time. … The show lives and dies by its Escobar, Brazil’s Wagner Moura — who didn’t speak Spanish when he took the role. He’s fantastic; patient, understated. – Vulture
Thoughts? Have you watched it? I highly recommend it.

I’m about halfway through and really enjoying it so far! I’m a sucker for shows that have some basis in history, because it’s crazy for me to think that these things actually happened and may even still be happening! You did good, Netflix.
I totally agree. I love how the show includes real footage and photos–it’s amazing! I can’t wait for season 2!
