It’s the time of year when every other email in my inbox is a holiday gift guide. Gifts Under $25, Gifts for the Gal on the Go, Holiday Gift Guide for Dads, The Best Christmas Gifts for Moms, Spoil Yourself with These Great Holiday Gifts. I gloss over almost all of those emails. Unfortunately, the majority of gift guides seem repetitive. But some blogs and e-commerce brands nail the Holiday Gift Guide on the head–it includes gifts for every budget, a combination of experiential and physical gifts, doesn’t feel too sales-y, and it includes gifts that I probably wouldn’t have thought of myself (those are the best ones, I think).
So, I’ve been going back and forth about whether or not to do one or a series of them here on The City and Us. To be fair, I have written gift guides in the past and putting together a gift guide can be enjoyable. But over the last couple years, I’ve noticed so much repetition across popular blogs and too many sponsored products listed in the guides that I’m annoyed by 90% of them. I definitely don’t want to make one of those!
If anything, I’ve been thinking about how to make gift guides useful–ones that will actually help people purchase a gift. And I want people to consider better, fewer gifts for their loved ones this year (and always). One of my favorite things is knowing that I gave a really good, meaningful, and useful gift.
What are you thoughts on gift guides? Anyone on the same page as me? Have you read a particularly good gift guide this season? Or have you put together one that you’re proud of? Link to it in the comments, if you’d like.
