Hi there! How was your week? We’ve been in New England visiting family, and we’ll be here next week too. It’s so nice to have a long stretch out of the city, plus it’s beautiful in New England this time of year. I hope you have a fun weekend, and here’s a big roundup of things I liked this week that felt worthy of sharing.
1. These strawberry Greek yogurt mini-bars. If you like strawberry cheesecake, then you’ll love these. I’m definitely trying the chocolate flavor next.
2. Speaking on New England, I agree with all the points Caroline Bologna makes in her piece “Mistakes Tourists Make While Visiting Vermont” for HuffPost — except the one about calling a soft-serve ice cream a ‘creemee.’ I always used ‘soft-serve’ and rarely heard people say ‘creemee’ growing up!
3. Heidi Gustafson’s ‘Book of Earth: A Guide to Ochre, Pigment, and Raw Color’ is on my wish list. It looks gorgeous. Check out these photos from the book. Reminds me of our trip to the Painted Hills in Oregon.
5. Have you tried a Spagett? I’d never heard of it until this week. It’s a Miller High Life with an ounce of Aperol and a squeeze of lemon. I’m trying one this weekend.
6. A bouquet of garlic scapes that I harvested this week. If you haven’t cooked with them before, they’re delicious in stir-fries and pesto.
7. “The Age of Average,” by Alex Murrel, a long-ish read about how everything looks the same, from coffee shops and vehicle logos to cities and fashion. If you spend any amount of time on social media, this isn’t surprising, but I still thought it was eye-opening. I also felt kind of bummed out while feeling motivated to do something different. If you read it, let me know your thoughts in the comments.
8. The advice for parents of trans kids in “The Transgender Family Handbook” by The Cut was a sweet read.
9. Condé Nast Traveler’s “32 Free Things to Do to Make the Most of Your Summer Travels” has some great ideas if you’re looking for budget-friendly activities this summer.
10. Alison Roman’s Frizzled Chickpea Salad, which she shared in her newsletter a few weeks ago, looks good. Adding it to my list of recipes to try in July.
11. I wasn’t into Barbies growing up, and I haven’t seen the movie yet. But this YouTube tour of The Barbie Dreamhouse by Architectural Digest makes me want to watch it. The thought and detail that went into the set!
12. Are you watching season two of The Bear? I liked season one and am looking forward to jumping back into this new season.
13. “150 Most Legendary Restaurants in the World & Their Iconic Dishes,” from TasteAtlas. “These are not just places to grab a meal, but destinations in their own right, comparable to the world’s most famous museums, galleries and monuments. Each one has withstood the test of time, eschewing trendy gimmicks in favor of traditional, high-quality cuisine.”
14. A great tee.
15. My mom gets the pretties (and tastiest) eggs from her neighbor all summer long.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great weekend!
