Rustic Wedding Signs DIY

Rustic Wedding Signs DIY | Happily K

When Dan and I were planning our surprise wedding, I knew I wanted to make a few special pieces to use as wedding decor. I love DIY weddings and seeing how the bride and groom add their own style to their wedding decor, so I was excited to do some projects of my own. The first few pieces I worked on were rustic wedding signs DIYs. These signs went well with our other low-key decor, and they didn’t take much time to make. Plus, these signs are something you can do well in advance of your wedding, so you’re not trying to cram in this project at the last minute.

Here are the directions if you’re interested in making something similar…

How To Make Rustic Wedding Signs | Happily K

Wedding Signs DIY

Materials

  1. Jute twine (thicker version)
  2. Burlap (I used burlap that’s similar to this one with a gold thread accent. That little bit of gold sparkle was perfect because I incorporated some other gold objects into our wedding decor.)
  3. Fabric paint
  4. Hot glue gun, plus glue sticks
  5. Decorative ribbon (optional)
  6. Scissors

Directions

  1. Using a pencil, draw three triangles on your burlap — two large triangles and one small one. If you’re not great at free-hand drawing, look around your house for something that’s a similar shape and trace it onto your burlap.
  2. Cut out all your shapes.
  3. Using your fabric paint, paint letters or symbols. I did a rough sketch of each letter before I started painting. Keep in mind that you want the letters/symbols thick enough so that people can see and read your sign from a distance.
  4. Let the paint dry according to the directions on the bottle.
  5. In the meantime, you can cut your twine to the desired length. I added a couple of extra feet to the overall length.
  6. Optional: Add decorative ribbon/other decorative items.
  7. Once the paint is dry, you’ll want to glue each triangle onto the twine. Lay your shapes face-down, and then position the twine about half an inch below the top edge. I positioned each triangle about two inches apart.

Voila, that’s it! What do you think? These rustic burlap signs are easy to make and so versatile. You can see how you could make a ton of these to use at your wedding. For example, in addition to this d/k one, I also made a “bar” sign for the bar area.

Did you do any DIY projects for your wedding? What about a wedding signs DIY? I’d love to hear!

Hope you’re having a great week!
