I’m a huge fan of maxi dresses and wear them often in warmer months. I love how effortless they are; I can throw one on and my outfit is made–so easy. And when it’s hot and humid–as it often is in NYC–soft, free-flowing fabric is cool and comfortable.
But spring temps in NYC can be tricky. Sometimes on my short walk to the subway, it’ll be warm and sunny in Brooklyn, but 45 minutes later, when I arrive in the Meatpacking district in Manhattan, the wind in whipping and it’s chilly. Lately, I’ve been wearing a button-down shirt as a top layer. But the other weekend, I pulled out this black faux leather jacket and paired it with an easy maxi dress. I bought this jacket several years ago, and to be honest, I’ve only worn it a handful of times. It’s one of those pieces where I liked the idea of it (and it was only $60), but it just hasn’t been something I wear very much. However, it was the perfect layer over a casual weekend maxi dress.
Jacket: by Paper Doll Los Angeles but isn’t available anymore. If you’re looking for a similar one, I like this grey BB Dakota draped jacket, $92, and this peplum biker jacket by Zara is only $70! (You might be able to find a Paper Doll jacket on Posh Mark too.)
Dress: from Forever 21 and I got it last summer for $19.90, so it’s also not available. Here are three cute options: Floral crossback cami maxi dress, $27.90, black embroidered gauze maxi dress, $32.90, and a geo-stripe maxi dress, $29.90.
Sandals: by Ecote and I ordered them from Urban Outfitters during an end-of-summer sale for ~$12.00 (similar pair here). I also like these popular Ecote Huarache shoes, $39, and this Morgan sandal, $39.
Bag: Transport Tote from Madewell, $168.
Ray Bans from ideel.
