Hey! How was your week? Doing anything fun this weekend? We don’t have any plans except to go to the farmer’s market tomorrow morning. I kind of love weekends when we don’t have anything specific going on. Here are 10 things I watched/ate/drank/read this week…
1. The Caretaker Gazette’s Twitter feed. Dan and I have done some caretaking/housesitting before, and it’s always in the back of my mind to do another one, especially if we could find one in an amazing location.
2. The trailer for A24’s Past Lives. Will absolutely be watching this movie when it comes out.
3. The Tropical Pavilion, Desert Pavilion, and Warm Temperate Pavilion at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.
4. “The End of “Succession” is Near” by Rebecca Mead for The New Yorker. Interesting to read about the creative reasons to end a show. Jesse Armstrong told The New Yorker, “You know, there’s a promise in the title of Succession. I’ve never thought this could go on forever. The end has always been kind of present in my mind. From Season 2, I’ve been trying to think: Is it the next one, or the one after that, or is it the one after that?”
5. A frozen margarita from Gueros in Crown Heights with my friend, Liz, plus one to go for Dan. This is Liz’s favorite margarita, and it was worth my finger tips freezing while carrying one home for Dan.
6. This Twitter thread of portraits famous photographers have taken of their partners.
7. Samantha Seneviratne’s Trick for Quicker, Creamier Oatmeal, which I’ll be trying (in a cast iron pan).
8. Seen in a doctor’s office.
9. “What Rewatching Old Shows Teaches Us About Ourselves,” by Allie Volpe for Vox. ‘The definition of nostalgia is a yearning for the past. It’s a desire to go back to a previous time. What I found in my research is that it’s not so much [participants] were yearning for the past. It’s that the rewatching experience allowed them to appreciate how much they had grown. It wasn’t yearning for the past; it was an appreciation of the present. The deep connection that you make to [the show] provides this self-reflexive moment that you’re like, “Wow, when I first watched this, I was 20. And now I’m 40. And I have kids.” You see it differently and that allows you to be like, “I’m a different person than I was then.”’
10. A batch of eggless banana muffins. These come out a bit more dense than most muffins, but they’re quick and simple to make if you’re looking something easy.
Have a good weekend! xo
