Valentine’s Day is this Sunday, so to celebrate let’s ‘show’ our loved ones we love them with little, nonverbal displays of affections. Sometimes it’s the seemingly insignificant acts–small favors here and there–that hold the most meaning and communicate our feelings the most accurately.
You know the saying ‘actions speak louder than words’? My mom ingrained this lesson in my head from a very young age, and there’s so much truth in it, don’t you think?
So, to get us started, here are a few ways to say “I Love You” without saying a word…
- Do their weekly chore. Does your roommate usually clean the shower and you usually vacuum? This week, do both and give her a week off.
- Leave a love note out one morning where you know he’ll find it before work.
- Serve breakfast or coffee in bed.
- Have a glass of wine waiting. If you know your roommate is on her way home from a rough day at the office, pour a glass of wine and have it waiting for her when she comes through the door.
- Start the car before work. If you live in a cold climate then you know the importance of starting your car 10 minutes before you leave for work. But the cold dash to and from the car can be a real bummer.
- Dog ear a page in his book with a great sentence or good reminder.
- Leave a dry towel out after you shower.
- Backup his phone. Because he has the best intentions of doing it, but never does.
- Take garments to the drycleaners. That random dress or suit that’s needed dry cleaning since last summer–you know the one–drop it off, finally.
- Listen. Sometimes that’s all they need.
PS. The first weekly mini challenge, and how it went, if you’re curious.
